How can we apply elenchus and the ga. What is elenchus (greek term for socrates method of question) He never wrote anything down which is why everything we know of him comes from. And even the ancients thought why does this philosopher not write anything down. Because of the above it presents a problem- showing that we have a difficult situation so how do we untangle to historical socrates from the literal socrates- it is hard for us to know who he really is. Eg- plato writes on socrates however other sources disagree about him/how he was described. Main sources of information about socrates were from: plato/aristophanes/xenophon. Socrates appears radically different according to all these sources. So what is he like in person and what is he like according to all the three sources he"s been described. Which is why he is sometimes referred to as plato"s socrates, xeno"s. Aristophanse, comic play- the clouds: he basically roast"s socrates.
