Obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) disorder of executive functioning . Post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd) trauma or stressor-related disorder . Unpleasant emotion commonly caused by perception of actual or potential (anticipatory) danger that threatens the security of the individual. Necessary part of evolution improves alertness, performance, survival. But, uncontrolled anxiety may lead to functional impairment. Response is proportional to the level of danger. Response is excessive, persistent, and meets dsm-v criteria. Disproportional response leading to irrational fear that impairs daily functioning. Untreated patients report poorer quality of life. Significant increased risk (2x) in suicide especially panic disorder, ptsd, gad. 40% of patients diagnosed with anxiety and related disorder are untreated. Personal history of anxiety, mood disorder or adhd. Environmental stressors (e. g. death, divorce, isolation, poverty, unemployment) Distinguish between anxiety secondary to medication or medical vs other causes of anxiety (i. e. situational or as a comorbidity). Psychiatric mood disorder, substance abuse, personality disorders.
