To describe age-related changes to the skin and their consequences. To describe common skin diseases (and to identify the most common) that occur in the elderly as the relate to common complaints of itching, ulceration, spots or nevi, and bruising. To outline an approach for the treatment (and prevention where applicable) of select skin disorders. Also smoking, weather, lifestyle factors (diet, stress, sleep) Localized over-production of melanin due to sun exposure. Single or multiple brown macules (2-4 mm diameter) or patches or thin plaques. May coalesce into larger patches (eg. several cm) Treatment: for cosmetic purposes cryotherapy, intense pulsed light, laser therapy. Usually develop in 4th decade onwards (not related to uv) Velverty or wart-like texture; waxy, stuck-on not a wart. Location: anywhere on body (except palms of hands and soles of feet) Crumble off (cid:373)i(cid:374)i(cid:373)al pro(cid:271)le(cid:373)s with that (cid:271)ut does(cid:374)"t (cid:272)ure it. Small, white-grey keratotic papules on dorsal feet/ankels of older fair skinned individuals.
