Document Summary
Embodied experience of the urban --> the city in cinema. Urban imaginaries: how we collectively create and represent our social life together, it is different from the materiality of cities. Imaginary: the idea of what goes on in a college classroom would be that we are producing knowledge. Materiality: the fact that not a lot of people want to be in a college classroom, there are too many lights off, it"s too early in the morning. He found that these people use 5 elements to study urban environment. He studied 3 different cities --> boston, jersey city and los. Case study example: "social life of small urban spaces" (william. Whyte 1969) --> he conducted a social experiment to analyze how people actually make use of public spaces. People didn"t like to be in the middle of spaces but navigated more so to the corners.
