Over 50% of the population is living in urban environments. The use of resource in cities, for transportation, industrial and residential. What happens in the city, goes far beyond the city. With the dynamics of a linear urban metabolism, drives land cover change outside of cities and the harvesting of resources flowing into the cities --> how we use resources and where resources come from. This means that not only is there one way flow of extracting goods from the cities, but there is also a flow of waste out of. Cities are where change can happen, and where it needs to happen in order to achieve the objectives of sustainable development. Environment --> how does sustainability go hand in hand with the environment. Economic --> equated with economic growth (measured by a growth in gdp - thus used as a measurement of success),
