Document Summary

2013 capture of vancouver city --> there was an 18% tree canopy cover, whilst in the mid 90s there was 23% canopy cover. Vancouver urban forest --> vancouver has the largest canopy cover in a human point of view (i. e. street view) Urban forests include high canopies and also beyond the upper 20/40 feet. Air cooling --> cools down ambient temperature in the city, reduces the effect of the urban heat island. Urban heat island: an area that is concrete in asphalt with concrete buildings, within this area, the area"s temperature raises 1 to 2 degrees in comparison to the surrounding areas. Little vegetation or evaporation causes cities to remain warmer than the surrounding countryside. 5% increase of the urban forest would reduce the urban heat island annual temperature (ultimately reduces the effect of climate change) Food production --> large trees also produce fruits, nuts, seeds (also provides health benefits)
