Considered to be a solution and a good form of development, but it is actually quite challenging. The existence of them has reshaped the global water system in lots of ways. Functions of dam --> they are built to control the flow of water in order to meet specific needs of society. Flood control --> for safety, prevent flood events. Others --> could be recreational, navigational reasons, canals. The reason why we build dams is because rivers are a flow. Resource --> thus to build dams, it is a way to control this. Determined by where the water comes from, there are 4 different types: Carnation creek --> high levels during the winter months (due to winter storms and rainfalls), while there is stable water flow (low flows) in the summer. Coquihalla river --> snow-melt dominated, massive snowmelt even during the spring and summer seasons. Hybrid (pluvio-nival) (a mixture of the 2 above)
