Document Summary
Slow-moving troughs of low pressure can develop within the tropical easterlies. Convergence on the rear side of the wave causes scatered showers and thunderstorms. Something has to happen within the air mass. More wind is blowing into an area than out of the air= more humid. Winds move from east to west hadley cells. High sea surface temperatures(sst[temp. of ocean surface]> 26 deg. Coriolis force: so the system revolves: low pressure. Clockwise: southern hem: 0 on the equator, max. at poles. Weak winds alot: low wind shear : wind shear: upper level wind stream that disrupts the upper level of the storm. High winds speeds: a hurricane is a tropical storm with winds > 110km/hr. Storm surge: created by extreme low pressure liting sea surface, wind drag(fricion) pushing water to coast, and convergence of water in shallow regions.
