Reference to biogeography 1: individuals, theory of tolerance . Biogeography: scieniic study of the diverse spaial and temporal distribuion of plants and animals and the important processes involved in determining the distribuions. Levels of organizaion: studied by biogeographers and ecologists. Ecological hierarchy: biological components: how do species interact with others, how they do interact shapes the community. Consumpion causes a decrease in supply of resources(less is available) Directly inluences physiological process(how hot or cold) Ectotherms: cold-blooded animals: lack the ability to internally control temperature, e. g. Endotherms: warm-blooded animals: create heat by their metabolisms, e. g. Precipitaion regime afects organism distribuions: amount: rainforests s deserts, type: rain vs snow, timing: wet vs dry season, light: Light availability is important in determining plant distribuion paterns. Photoperiod: seasonal changes in light, oten triggers biological processes.
