Prior to 1905: cinema usually shown in a place not specifically intended for the screening of motion pictures and in a place that did not necessarily regularly show moving pictures. Almost no cinemas, no motion picture places specifically built and intended for the screening of films. Permanent film theatre does not emerge until a decade after the birth of cinema. Within a culture of screening practices that is inter-media (something that includes or encompasses a variety of media), varied, and unpredictable. Inter-media: something that includes or encompasses a variety of different media- film, painting, dance, projected slides.
