FIST 200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Cahiers Du Cinéma, Auteur Theory, Xavier Dolan
Document Summary
To ascribe personal traits to the piece of work. Film authorship treats cinema in the way other arts have been treated. General principles explore issues of individual creative vision, control and concerns/themes in cinema. A whole crew and cast work on a whole of a film, bring the story the screenwriter wrote to life. But since it is a collaborative piece doesn"t mean it cant be seen as a piece of art of the figure of an author. Behind some creative figure, personal element to it. We dont like to think of art of a factory produced thing, rather as something unique and give thought exploring the creative vision of the director, giving us a figure for us to think about. A figure that has created this piece of art the director has a unique and personal artistic perspectives and his/her films are products of that perspective. Their films are a product of their perspective.
