Canada has a very high reputation since 1942 of its animation. Norman mclaren - the name that is associated most closely to canada"s animation success in the nfb, Raul barre (1874-1932) - considered one of the earliest animators founded many animation techniques. Canada - created first strip cartoon in 1902, about adventures of a montreal family, for la presse. Founded one of the first animations studios in 1914. 1920s worked on the felix the cat cartoons. Worked in hollywood from the beginning though from canada. The records from the films are all that exist but the original films dont exist. Bryant fryer 1927, created dark silhouette technique films, animation techniques made in germany that he copied and made his own. Due to budget cuts he went into more commercial work. Early attempt at animation, were not really connected, no organization they belonged to, no way to sustain it privately thus had to go to more commercial work.
