Aka situation comedy, is a genre of television comedy driven by the interactions between characters connected by shared environment, like a home or workplace. 30 rock, cheers, girlfriends, family ties, sex and the city, fresh off the boat, roseanne. Sitcoms traditionally are episodic with relationships that are relatively static. However, contemporary sitcoms are much more varied and often are serialized with characters and relationships that change through a season. Episodic- episodic television relies on stories that appear as stand-alone episodes. Serialized- serials usually follow a main story arc for an entire season, or potentially a series. Though increasingly most sitcoms are now three-act, the classic format often intended to be two) Rising tension into and out of advertising breaks relative narrative stasis.
