What are the two types of remote sensing: passive. Energy source is the sun: active. Carries its own energy source with it. *remember that this is in the near infrared part of the spectrum. Send a laser pulse out and we measure the distance of when we sent the laser and when it gets back. Useful for mapping terrain i. e. we can get 3d model of the ground using lidar: radar (radio waves) *remember that radar has its own separate wavelengths x c l p. Able to be used day or night. Not affected by weather as radar can see through clouds. The radar wavelength (xclp) size is very important as it tells us what we are going to be interacting with and how far we can see into the ground (soil) Only useful for ice and snow: sonar (sound) We send a soundwave and wait for it to come back.
