Bacteria have been found to change the structures they producewhen they are placed in a situation of high flow rates, especiallyin a narrow space, like a tube. Often these new structures allowthem to attach themselves or trap other bacteria in a biofilmidentify some advantages to this strategy from the bacterium'sperspective.
