Document Summary

Generator potenial: when dissolved chemicals contact the dendriic processes; depolarizaion happens. Sensory receptors in the ear are protected from the external environment because its located in the internal ear. Internal ear: complex sense organ where sensory informaion is integrated and organized before its sent to the cns. Recepive cells of the internal ear are called hair cells. Hair cells: free surface, covered with specialized processes similar to the cilia and microvilli of other cells. External force pushes against the process of hair cells, distorion of plasma membrane alters the rate at which the hair cells release neurotransmiters. Provide informaion about the direcion and strength of mechanical simuli. Movement towards the kinocilium simulates hair cell, movement towards the smaller one inhibits the hair cell. Contain kinocilium: single large cilium, hair cells don"t move them. Supported by free surface of every hair cell. Collects and directs sound waves toward the middle ear.
