Document Summary

Learning outcomes: explain how hippo factors contribute to population changes. Fragmentation occurs when one large ecosystem is broken up into smaller separated pieces. This creates small isolated populations of species thus increasing extinctions. Loss of biodiversity is seen along boundaries of natural habitats. 93% of earth"s coral reefs have been damaged by human activity. Reefs only occupy about 0. 2% of the ocean floor. All reefs will be in trouble by 2050. Half of the great barrier reef is already gone. As mentioned due to habitat fragmentation there is an overall decrease in the amount of habitat area. The smaller fragmented patches have more contact with the second habitat. Part b questions: you will consider what effect habitat fragmentation might have on the species in the dark green habitat. You don"t need to know species names, but general descriptions of the organisms are sufficient: plants growing in forest soils generally get all their nutrients indirectly from decomposers.
