Chavin de hauntar: ancient oracle of the andes". Sculptures range from small to large - life size - images. They were carved on granite and took a lot of skill to carve on. Located in the center of the oldest building in the temple. One of the very few where the image remains (cid:312)"miling god(cid:313) sculpture. Jaguar figure but incorporated other animals like eagles and serpents. Peru is a land of extreme climates and environments. The people of chavin had access to both the dry, desert coast and the lush rainforest. Chavin was at the center of trading routes. Has a physical and spiritual presence (cid:312)idols , ravines, boulders or large rocks, hills. Mountain peaks, springs, fountains whatever natural objects that seem notable and differentiated from the rest. (cid:313) By looking at the seams of the building, they were able to tell there were 15 stages of construction. They were all covered with plaster and painted.
