Mise-en-scene: french term, all the elements placed in front of the camera to be photographed; the settings and props, lighting, costumes and makeup and figure behaviour. Or to place in front of the screen. 2 basic type of mise en scene, expressionism and realism. Mise en scene is the way they design the set so if you chose props for the set you"d have normal appropriate sets in a classroom. If it was expressionist, you"d have under lighting. No makeup in realistic and lots in expressionist. Seems realistic, not necessarily in the real world but realistic to the film. Its a device filmmaker uses to make you believe the film.
