Social listening - informal, gave and take, be able to respond courteous listening. Discriminative - paying attention in order to understand. Critical - do not take assertions as face, assess new information on their own via reason. If it does not hold, they reject it. Are also willing to change mind if proven wrong. Empathetic - interested in understanding the person. Technique: physically orientating towards the person speaking, listening without interrupting, paraphrasing for understanding, asking open, genuine questions for understanding, demonstrating empathy. Dialogic listening - creating meaning with another understanding and adding to conversation. Back channeling - paying attention to the other party"s cues. Paraphrase plus - paraphrasing and adding own comments.
