17 were taken hostage, but their treatment is very well: 36 informants were located and murdered. Tortured in savage ways: guards only minimal injuries were from the initial stage, guards and undesirables are treated different because of social values. Prison guards as hostages: guards injuries occur in the initial stage because of resistance guards put up. But they are usually unintentional: some inmates may try to injure or kill guards but other inmates will risk their lives to protect them, normally no instance of guards injured once taken hostage. This even happens if their demands are not met. Ironically, guards are most likely to be killed by the army sent in to use force to save guards: 1975, mary stein hauser a social worker was shot to death by guards trying to rescue them. Inmates are not always given what they want.
