Each group has a document and video assigned to the group. Going to be asked to sociologically describe what happens in the video using concepts learned in class. We are influenced by social norms, institutions and culturally defined roles. We live our lives in particular historical and social contexts that have gendered. Interested in how society is structured by gender and how gender works in social institutions. Sex is biological, but gender is socially constructed. Four benchmark ideas are explored in this chapter. 1: gender is a vantage point of critique, most stuff written by men. 3: gender is realized in social roles and institutions. 4: gender is a relation of power and inequality. Women were invisible within the content of sociology and in the profession of sociology this includes examination of body image, transgressive sexualities, eating disorders and male sexual responsibilities.
