Paired ovaries form in the same abdominal region as the testes. Ovaries descend but remain in the pelvic region. At birth oocytes (immature eggs) are already in the ovary. Are located at the back of the abdominal cavity and held in place by ligaments. Within each follicle is an egg cell (primary oocyte) Caused by cysts on the ovaries and the resulting high levels of androgens. Development of a tumor in the ovaries. Use wavelike movements to sweep the secondary oocyte into the fallopian tube (day 14) They contain smooth muscle and are funnel shaped. Fertilization usually occurs in the upper third of the fallopian tube. Normal length of secondary oocyte in the tube is 3-5 days. Occurs when the fertilized ovum starts to grow in the fallopian tube. Must be terminated before the tube bursts or it could lead to sterilization. The lower part is narrow and connects to the vagina. The uterus is composed of two tissues:
