1. Introduction
Tourism should be planned in an integrated manner aimed at the sustainable development
of its cultural and natural resources
Therefore, the environmental approach should be applied throughout the planning
process

It is essential to understand and continuously assess the environmental impacts of tourism
and to consider how the negative impacts can be prevented and positive ones reinforced
Up until recently, little attention was paid to the environmental impacts of tourism

The three aspects of the tourism-environment are:
o Many features of the physical and natural environment are attractions for tourists
o Tourists facilities and infrastructure constitute one aspect of the built environment
o Tourism development and tourist use of an area generate environmental impacts
