Schizophrenia: breakdown in cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dysfunctions. Usually they are no longer experiencing reality in the expected way- psychosis. Affects on average 1% of people- term means split personality , named when we didn"t really understand what it was. Positive symptoms: presence of something that is not ordinary, e. g. delusions: gross misrepresentations of reality. Bizarre: delusions that are completely ungrounded in reality. (my internal organs have been removed and replaced! I am responsible for all the world"s violence and sex!) Non-bizarre: could be plausible, big stretch of the truth (e. g. Drug traffickers and police have a secret alliance!) Delusion of guilt/sin: i am responsible for paris. Somatic: you think your body has been altered somehow (getting disease, growing a tail). Persecutory: people are talking about me, looking at me funny, people in another country are plotting my demise. Of reference: random event has special meaning for you.
