In franzen"s narrative the comfort zone readers are taken through a developmental period in. Franzen"s narrative immediately outlines the important role the peanuts cartoons played in his young life. As we follow along franzen"s journey of narrative, we learn he has faced many difficulties in his developing years. As his story opens with the dramatic exit of his older brother tom, we are able to sympathize with with franzen and the struggles he is enduring. All we learn about franzen through his narrative all seems to be leading up to the climax of his spelldown. As franzen recalls the events of the spelldown we finally come to the narratives pre - climax. This spelldown and conflict with chris toczko becomes the first emotional point of realization for franzen. The ultimate climax is after the death of chris toczko. Franzen is forced to come to terms with his behaviour and begins to reevaluate the way he treats people.
