PSYCH253 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Psych, Blindsight, Belief Perseverance
Document Summary
Information processing model: we see ourselves as information processor of stimuli, self serving bias: think you are performing more behaviours because you have this perceptual bias where you think you do more than you actually do. You only see and represent in your head what you do over what you don"t. Imagine you return to your old high school: the new and old cues in your environment will shape your actions, environmental cues will affect the way you"re thinking. Dictates how you perceive then situation and how you act in the situation. Out judgements and preconceptions are cued by our context (whether we are aware of it or not!) Why: we analyze our environment and make patterns and predictions; we later rely on these patterns and predictions, sometimes unconsciously. Recall the power of the implicit system (wilson et al, 1993, jordan et al 2003) Cognitive concept can be activated through primes, in uencing our behaviour.
