Document Summary

Lecture 3 - wednesday september 11th, 2019. Environment: all the things that will influence the phonotype or genotype. Flamingos are not pink, they are white in colour. This is due to their phenotype and something about their genotype allows them to turn pink. It would not necessarily happen if it did not take in specific foods. It has to do with the fish, foods that they eat. There is a limit of changes that can be made to a genotype but within that limit anything can contribute to that genotype. Cat picture: jellyfish was altered with cat to make it glow in the dark. There are 5 ways genotype/phenotype and environment interact: parents genotype -> child"s genotype: The chromosomes meet, half of it is from your mother and half of it is from your father. They carry the same information from the same location. Sometimes that can change, 2 main mechanisms: mutation and crossing over.
