Introduction: levels of processing reconstructive nature of memory amnesia . Episodic and semantic memory explicit and implicit memory. Incidental learning - learning that occurs accidentally while a person is engaged in a different task and does not attempt to consciously memorize the material. Identifying words: capital letter = least memorable, rythmes = next memorable, fits in sentence = most memorable. The war of ghosts - participants were asked to read story and recall it over time: memories of stories were distorted over time with personal life events - Flashbulb memories - vivid memories of some event (ie. 9/11). 40% of participants recalled a word that was not presented but was related: despite persons belief in false memory signals are different than those seen in real memories. When one reads the word nurse" activation spreads to related concepts, including doctor" which facilitates the processing of related concepts.
