Lecture 9 textbook notes: moivaion and emoion (modules 32- Moivaion: a need or desire that energizes and directs behaviour. Insinct: a complex behaviour that is rigidly paterned throughout a species and is unlearned. Drive-reducion theory: idea that a physiological need creates an aroused tension state (a drive) that moivates an organism to saisfy the need. Homeostasis: a tendency to maintain a balanced or constant internal state; the regulaion of any aspect of body chemistry, such as blood glucose, around a paricular level. Incenive: a posiive or negaive environmental simulus that moivates behaviour. Hierarchy of needs: maslow"s pyramid of human needs, beginning at the base with physiological needs that must irst be saisied before higher-level safety needs and then psychological needs become acive. Self-transcendence needs - need to ind meaning and idenity beyond the self. Self-actualizaion needs - need to live up to our fullest and unique potenial.
