Hippocrates (460-370 bce; ancient greece) developed personality classification scheme. Moved human behaviour by categorizing different personality types. 1 see page 15 figure 1. 5 for major events in history of psychology. Measuring bumps on head could identify different traits individual possessed: brain injuries and the ways they affect behaviour; many patient cases showed this: Paul broca studied patient named tan would could only speak tan, although he could hear and understand perfectly. Broca identified area on left side of brain that was damaged and claimed to have found where speech production was localized (area now called broca"s area ) Karl wernicke identified wernicke"s area patients w damage to area could speak in sentences that sounded normal, but w unusual or made-up words; recovered patients reported that no speech made sense during recovery period language comprehension!
