Document Summary
Motivation: what"s driving us to certain behaviour (can be psychological, physiological, or competing) 1: phys wants to eat, psych wants to lose weight. 2: phys is exhausted, psych wants to work out. Eating instinct to eat what"s in front of us species (survival) (doesn"t explain not eating it) Greed instinct to eat the chocolate before and aggression (survival) anyone else does. Circular logic: do it because it"s an instinct, instinct causes the action. Need > drive > drive reducing behaviours. People seek to increase arousal rather than reduce it. Eat the chocolate bar if we were hungry. Wouldn"t eat the chocolate if we didn"t have the drive (doesn"t explain bored eating) Eat the chocolate to increase arousal (explains bored eating) Too little = bored, too much = anxiety (look for optimum, varies universally) Not an internal/biological drive but an external one = push. Humans driven to achieve maximum potential but there are obstacles.
