Compression of morbidity hypothesis: because of our advances in our healthcare system, if we know we can expect to be reasonably healthy, more and more are able to postpone their chronic disability to a later age. 20th century: life expectancy was between 45-50 yrs. Today we live in a different world; globally we have 10 years higher in developed countries compared to developing countries. Women in developed countries have higher life expectancy than men, but lower in developing countries.
