HLTH173 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Retrograde Amnesia, Spatial Memory, Episodic Memory
Document Summary
The still face experiment: in this video we see that when the mom is playing with her baby, the baby responds positively by pointing, smiling, and babbling. But as soon as the mom goes still and does not respond to its attention, the baby tries to get attention by smiling, pointing, and then crying because its confused. 2 hippocampi in each lobe in the medial temporal lobe function: involved in learning & memory plenty of studies done in animals and studies have shown that hippocampus is important for learning. Hippocampus is critical in learning and memory and transforming and stabilizing these memories in other parts of the brain. Also critical for transformation & stabilization of memories elsewhere in the brain. His hippocampi were removed to treat his severe seizures. After his surgery he could not learn anything new (lost the ability to learn something new) We have 2 types of long term memory.
