Document Summary

Psychological health is important in all dimensions of wellness. It is what allows us to think, feel and behave in ways that contribute to our ability to enjoy life and face challenges. It is sometimes defined negatively as the absence of illness, or positively as the presence of wellness. Psychological health is not the same as psychological normality. Psychological diversity is what makes society flourish so the mere presence or absence of symptoms does not determine if someone is mentally ill or mentally healthy. For example, having some stress or anxiety is good or else you will be unmotivated. Maslow"s hierarchy states that we should be striving towards the ultimate goal of self-actualization. The hierarchy is of needs that one must work towards to achieve positive psychological health going from psychological needs (food, sleep), safety and security (protection), love and belongingness (connections to others), self-esteem, and at the top, self-actualization. There are 6 important features of someone with self-actualization.
