(cid:862)a(cid:374) Curtis suffered from epilepsy and major depression, as well as various other personal issues, led to his suicide in 1980. New order was created out of joy division. But joy division brought out the synth pop sound of the 1980s in britain: the police: mixed punk, jazz, ska, old school rock n roll. Helped to mainstream new wave in the 80s (but was for sure less brooding than the smiths for example) U2: founded in dublin, ireland by bono, the edge, adam clayton, Larry mullen jr: their first album boy (cid:449)as (cid:396)eleased i(cid:374) (cid:1005)(cid:1013)(cid:1012)(cid:1004) (cid:271)ut (cid:449)as(cid:374)"t a huge su(cid:272)(cid:272)ess. War in 1983 was a huge breakthrough in both ireland and north america. They were truly shot to superstardom in 1987 with the joshua tree.
