Biomes - ecosystems classified together according to similar vegetation and animal types. Biosphere - global sum of the living environment on earth. Biotic components - living organisms of an ecosystem. Exotic/immigrant/alien species(not all alien species are invasive) Keystone species(loss causes significant impact to community) Non living components/characteristics of the ecosystem that impact distribution of biotic components. Is the result of all the interactions between abiotic and biotic factors throughout evolution. Variability in genetic makeup among individuals of the same species;the ultimate source of biodiversity at all level. The total number of species in an area: global estimates 5 to 20 million species on earth. The variety of ecosystems in an area. Overall, biodiversity tends to decrease as you move away from the tropics to the poles. Biodiversity hotspots: areas with high numbers of endemic species; mainly found in tropical areas.
