ENVS195 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Carbon Footprint, Lithosphere, Hydrosphere
Document Summary
Every year so far in the 21st century has been in the top 20 of the warmest years on records. Strong evidence that human activities have become a main driving force in environmental change. Environment includes atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, lithosphere and biosphere in which humans, other living species and non-animate phenomena exist. Resources are more specific and are normally though of; forests, wildlife, oceans, rivers, lakes, minerals and petroleum. Some believe resources are only applicable to humans (only a resource if it benefits humans) which is called an anthropocentric view. Ecocentric or biocentric view values all aspects of the environment simply because they exist and accepts that they have the right to exist. On the global scale, there is undeniable evidence of unprecedented environmental degradation as a result of human activities. Wealthier countries have high demand for more resources and use up the most energy per capita. We are expected to be at 9. 6 billion by 2050.
