Law impacts every aspect of society, including the business environment: ex. Can"t yell ire in public place causing havoc: case: guy drew child pornography, put it in public domain, got charged. Defence was it was his freedom of expression, only his thoughts. Court said cannot distribute those types of thoughts to public. Knowledge of the law helps entrepreneurs maximize protecion and avoid pifalls. Rule of law: we are subject to the law. Substanive law: what is the legal dispute that has risen, ex. Law of contracts: civil: dispute between individuals. Ex: contract law, tort law (sufered a wrongdoing and want to be compensated), business law, insurance, family. Law: criminal: deals with ofences that government has ideniied as crimes. Aka: public law (deals with government: regulatory: not criminal in nature but deals with government. Leaves decision to an administraive tribunal or board. Procedural law: provides the tools to take substanive law case and proceed in a legal way.
