Pentheus; grandson of cadamus; next king of thebes died at the hands of mother agave; so labdacus became king; but also died due to disregard of dionysus. Labdacus son laius (would be king but too young at time of fathers death had to give throne to great-great uncle lycus) is the father of oedipus. Laius was exiled in elis where he had been taken by pelops. Laius curses his lineage by abducting pelops" son chrysippus who he was in love with.
