Statue considered very sacred to greeks which was credited to erichthonius: erechtheus: war with eleusis, sacrifice of daughters eumolpus. Often said to be grandson of erichthonius. Sprung from the ground (similar to spartoi at thebes) (cf. Told by delphi that athens would win war if he did sacrifice. Because of this all of other daughters killed themselves. Killed erechtheus with his trident: ion: Creusa (daughter of erechtheus) had a son, ion, by apollo. Creusa hid child until it was born because she was scared of what people would think if they knew she was pregnant to god before marriage. Apollo then raised ion in his temple. Creusa married xuthus (son of hellen) and discovered ion. Found out him and creusa couldn"t have child.
