Zeus found out that thetis would bear a son that would be superior, married thetis off with peleus and had achilles. At thetis and peleus" wedding, all god and goddesses were invited to the wedding except eris (the goddess of strife) Eris appeared and threw on the table a golden apple inscribed with for the most beautiful people contending for it were athena, aphrodite and hera. Paris was the judge and each of them promised him a reward if he judged her to be the most beautiful: paris, heroic stature: dream, exposure & survival. Before he was born, hecuba had a dream that she would give birth to a firebrand that would destroy troy.
