Historical background: bronze age greece (2000-1100 bc) 2000 bc greeks enter greece : focus on breasts indicates ferility, snakes also indicate ferility. 2000-1450: minoan civilizaion: in iconography/art they did not portray violence, mycenaean does use violence. Linear b: type of script the mycenaean"s use, adopted from minoans, but adapted to the greek language, a lot of linear b tablets survived they record economic data (ex. Number of chariot wheels, barley, etc. : both min/myc are focused on palaces. Origins of greek mythology: realizaion that linear b was early greek, mycenaean culture died out. Ability to do arisic work died out. 1050: iron age begins in greece: advanced iron technology came to greece much more complex than bronze technology. Myths transmited orally: not much in the way or archeological remains/writen accounts, myths were clearly done orally passed down centuries through the dark age.
