Pan cuts the reeds and played it as an instrument his pan pipes: echo. Pan chases echo the nymph and can"t catch her. He drives some shepherds out in the fields crazy and they grab echo. The shepherds unfortunately ripped echo apart and all that"s left of her is her voice in the wind. This is an etion for the echo . The alternate version was that echo was with a bunch of her other nymphs. Echo and zeus escapes from being caught in his affair with a different nymph.
