Document Summary

Within this experiment, the ethanol percentage within an unknown wine sample had been determined. This has been accomplished through the use of creating a standard solution with successive concentrations which are used as the calibration for the spectrophotometric readings. This allowed us to determine the wine, 2012 sauvignon, to have an ethanol percentage of 14%. This is deemed to be fairly accurate and within margin of error as the ethanol percentage within wine varies from 10% - 18%. Very minimalistic errors may have incurred through the process of the lab both including instrumental and procedural errors. Instrumental errors may have incurred when reading off the spectrophotometric meter in determining the absorbance value. As the device is not digital, there may be some deviations taken in from reading it off a dial. Additionally, procedural errors that have to be taken account for include creating the standard solutions used to calibrate and determine the absorbance readings.
