BIOL308 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Hagfish, Environmental Factor
Document Summary
Size as a hatchling is generally small but as adult gets fatter and longer: can range from 6. 5cm to 7. 5 cm as a hatchling, can range from 30cm to 38cm as an adult. Colour varies, as it changes colour with changes in temperature, humidity and other environmental factor: starts off light brown and can turn dark reddish brown (fire up) Other species within the correlophus genus have larger teeth specifically indicating that they were not originally dependent solely on fruits, seeds, and insects. Coloured alterations are a form of adaptions as well to suit there. Adaption of tail falling off: escape mechanism for predation, like the hagfish and slime development to slide away from predators, geckos drop their tails to escape the predator. Reproduction: females on need to mate once with a male and can lay eggs yearly.
