Ectoderm: becomes the vertebrate nervous system and epidermis, the dorsal ectoderm is specified to become neural ectoderm. Its cells become columnar: region of dorsal ectoderm specified to become the neural ectoderm is called the neural plate, neural plate folds into the neural tube through a process called neurulation. The neural table is the precursor of the cns (ie. brain and spinal cord) Ectodermal tube formation: during gastrulation the organizer region produced bmp antagonists, high levels of bmp signaling instructed the cell to become epidermis. Low levels of bmp instructed cells to become the neural plate. Intermediate levels of bmp instructed cells to become the neural crest cells. Plays important roles in inducing and patterning the nervous system. It forms in the wake of the regressing node. Neurulation: primary neurulation invagination and rolling up a sheet of cells that separate as an epithelial tube from the overlying epithelium.
