Circular engine with cylinders(odd #) arranged radially around the crank case. Good cooling and is easy to maintain but poor forward visibility and excessive drag: in-line. Cylinders (max of 6) arranged side by side in a row. Engine can be inverted to provide better visibility. Less drag and greater visibility: horizontally opposed. Carburetors mounted bottom of the oil pan to keep it warmed. Parts of the reciprocating engine: 2 sets of spark plug (one for left mag and one right mag, bottom dead centre/top dead, piston rings. Scrapes oil of the cylinders as piston moves down: intake valve, exhaust valve, combustion chamber, camshaft. Rotates once as crankshaft that rotates two times: crankcase. Engine timing: timing of the opening or closing of the intake and exhaust valves and the ignition of the fuel/air mixture. Valve overlap (both valves open at the same time)
