Aerial photographs allows sites to be photographed at any time of day, directionality of the sun. Fixed wing aircrafts have 2 types of photographs: Oblique (diagonal)photographs: better for pictorial effect and perspective (much closer in perspective, more details are seen) Vertical photographs: better for making plans and maps for photogrammetry (way of measuring size of objects from the ground) When there is a lot of snow, the highlights of the shadow can reveal remarkable details about a site or object as well. Reveals the presence in ditches, change of soil. Most soil mark sites are sites that are in the process of being destroyed due to ploughing. Example a gallo-roman villa in france was found through soil marks, separation between walls are very apparent due to the soil marks. Developed when a buried wall or ditch decreases or enhances crop growth due to moisture or depth through the changing of the soil.
