Serial communication-the method of communication for networks-is data transmitted sequentially (bit by bit) over a single wire; like a super highway. Goes from one compu to another compu->why it s called a network. Can be wireless but we are talking about wired. The port that you plug wires into ur compu to ex print something, connect to the internet. It all started with the circuit-switched telephone networks-just like in the movies in the olden days when port plug-ins would be connected when you wanted to talk to ex. This idea works wirelessly for cell phones-wireless signals are sent from your phone to the tower to the person ur calling/texting. Potential failure if the core source goes down. B4 any of the compu network was accessible, ex. Ael where prof was a part of research where he would hook their compu up to a phone port in order to talk to a cpmu in ny.
